I also found it devout, insofar as it seemed to me the straightforward reflections of a holy and unpretentious man. I don’t believe, I should say, that the accusations that were brought against him in court were based in fact. I believe there were powerful people who conspired against him, because of their hatred of the Catholic Church, and their hatred of him personally. Which isn’t to say there hasn’t been instances in which those who represent the Church, clerics included, have committed grave and immoral acts, similar to those of which Cardinal Pell was accused. Of course there has been. And they are repugnant beyond words.
