In the car that I’d boarded was a man who’d been out on the platform, in my vicinity, who now, as the train started to move, and the people inside continued to sit or to stand and to look at their phones, or talk, or maintain a protective silence, began to speak loudly, to everyone, or to no one in particular, about certain prophecies that he believed had been divinely ordained and that now were reaching fulfillment, in the age in which we all happened to be living.
