There was no one out on the pier today, when I got there. Sometimes a man will be fishing from the end of it, if the hour is still early. I don’t mean the same man every time, but some man or other, usually of Latino descent. Whoever it is will often have two or three rods leaning at an angle against the railing, with the lines far out in the water, and will be reeling in one of the lines, or will be standing back from them a little, watching them.
