The parables of Jesus, as they are expressed in the gospels, are art, though they also transcend art by way of their function, and by way of the fact that they issued from the the mouth of the Second Person of the Trinity. They are holy in and of themselves, in other words, because they came from him. Further, they are not ‘trying’ to be art. Even if they can’t help but be art.
