We didn’t find the item there, so we left Bloomingdale’s and walked several blocks to another store, which we thought would be more likely to carry the item, based on information we’d gathered by looking at the internet on one of our phones. While we were there, A. needed to use the restroom, so I waited for her in an area where mannequins were displaying women’s attire while she disappeared down a hallway that could be reached by wandering past some clothing racks near a wall. The mannequins I was standing beside didn’t have heads, and their frames were thin and androgynous. I wandered away from them toward a shoe section, where there was a sofa that people could sit on, to try on the merchandise, and I sat there till A. reappeared. Then we continued on in search of the kitchen item, which we did indeed find, on another floor.
