In one of the paperbacks I read recently, while taking a break from working on this book, a private investigator falls in love with a woman who has hired him for a case that she herself is partly responsible for creating the conditions of, though she doesn’t admit as much to the private investigator up front, before he accepts her offer, for fear that he will refuse to become involved.
