Which isn’t to say they are the only persons in the world who try to hide the deeds that trouble their conscience (or that ought to trouble their conscience, if those deeds do not) — I will admit there are things I do that trouble my own conscience, and that would cause me to turn scarlet in the face were they to come to the ‘light’ of public knowledge.
