One might wonder why I’ve gone to such lengths to describe this particular point, this one involving our own essential hiddenness or privacy, and the inextricability of it from God’s will that we should have it; the truth is I’m not sure myself, though I sense the reason has something to do with what I see as a threat to it, though I’m not convinced the threat will ever amount to anything more than that (a threat) insofar as it originates in a conception of reality that is flawed and self-defeating, and that can bring about nothing, I suspect, but noise, demoralization, and tyranny.
