The exemplar of which, to Kierkegaard’s mind, was the patriarch Abraham, whose obedience to God was so complete, and his faith so thorough, that he would’ve sacrificed his own beloved son Isaac (with a knife, upon an altar of wood, on Mount Moriah), because God had commanded him to do so.
