Also last night, before I lay down the first time, to read, I’d seen, as I’d been undressing, in a box on a shelf in a closet in the room, a number of packets of photographs that had been developed during a time when it was still customary to use film cameras. I reached into the box and removed one of these packets and opened it and looked through the photos, most of which were of my family and of places we’d lived when we were young. One of them was of the back yard of a house we’d lived in in Australia, during the 1980s. No one was in the photograph, it was just the back yard itself, and a view of the sky at dusk, taken, I think, from the balcony at the rear of the house.
