One of the projects I’d been working on, before I started these entries, was a series of illustrations inspired by the the sixth level of hell, from Dante’s Inferno, called City of Dis. I’d sit at my laptop, here in the apartment in New York, but also at the house in Cheyenne, and draw digital pictures, mostly in black and white, though sometimes with the color red, of figures and landscapes and dwellings that seemed to me to communicate an atmosphere of spiritual dread.
