There is a French movie I like called The Moustache about a man who shaves his mustache one morning, on a whim, and no one in his life seems to notice. Not only that, but when he finally mentions this to them, and presses them on their lack of observation, they insist that he never had one, and wonder aloud to him whether he is trying to play on them a joke. So that he is plunged into a kind of existential or philosophical crisis, and begins to question reality. Which sounds very French, if you ask me.
