Which is a joke for several reasons, but which also contains an underlying truth, which I think is best demonstrated by this more pensive or serious quote, attributed to another Catholic saint, Hilary of Poitiers, a bishop of Gaul who lived way back in the fourth century, and who is now a Doctor of the Church. It goes, “No matter how sinful one may have been, if he has devotion to Mary, it is impossible that he be lost.”
